Although this was the third year of the Andy’s Choice Award at the Manton Truck Show, I knew I had to prepare him with instructions as to what his job was. We had dutifully made the rounds countless times (countless to me, but Dallas or Curt may have been counting more than how many times I changed my shoes!). We checked out each and every truck top to bottom and front to back to narrow the list of potential winners. Once the winner was selected and turned into the staff his next job was to help with the presentation. My instructions to him were “you have to hold on to the trophy and shake hands with the winner. He followed my instructions to a T. He shook hands with Shawn and he held on to the trophy…….
And he held on……
…and as Shawn was walking back to his seat, Andy held on…. and his smile got bigger…and he walked with Shawn…
…and Shawn just rolled with it and with a bigger smile Andy held on,,,, all the way to our seats!
Due to the activity all around it was only when the photos were examined all the I could see the wonderful story they told. What a nice surprise! I doubt I ever could have written a description worthy.
I believe the Andy’s Choice Award is now well known and expected by the contestants at the Manton Stuck Show and so is the drill of shaking Andy’s hand, they know. Now if I cant just get my instructions to Andy accurate! However, if I had given proper instructions I would not have these pictures that show pure and honest joy in both Andy and Shawn. Even looking at them as I publish this is heartwarming for me all over again. Thank you Shawn for this addition to our list of truck show experiences!
Proof! With proper instruction, Andy will let go of the Award!
I never know what fun or heart warming experience is next with Andy but I sure do enjoy them and the people that come into our life that I otherwise would never meet. It’s been a pleasure to get to know Shawn and his family and looking forward to the next show!
